NOAH: Helping clinicians and families get babies home sooner

NOAH: Helping clinicians and families get babies home sooner

NOAH (Neonatal Oral Antibiotics at Home) is a new initiative changing how we care for babies with suspected early-onset infections.

Instead of remaining in hospital for up to a week of intravenous antibiotics, eligible babies can now finish their treatment at home with oral antibiotics. This simple change is already showing real benefits: earlier bonding, improved breastfeeding, reduced bed days, and a smaller carbon footprint.

In this short video, Dr Harriet Aughey and Dr David Bartle from the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust share how the pilot was developed and delivered. Louise Hall, Evaluation Lead at Health Innovation South West, reflects on the wider system impact and what we’ve learned so far.

Watch the video to hear directly from those involved and explore how this approach could support families in your area. All implementation tools and evaluation resources are available on our webpage.
