Personalised Digital Cancer Support Platform
Vinehealth enables cancer patients to easily track, manage and understand day-to-day medications, symptoms and lifestyle to improve their experience of care, quality of life and outcomes.
Uses a combination of behavioural science and AI enabling cancer patients to easily track, manage and understand medications, symptoms, lifestyle factors and for their clinicians to personalise treatment based upon patient reported signs and symptoms
For cancer patients, lack of daily support leads to poorer outcomes. Clinicians tracking patient reported symptoms can support timely, personalised treatment for improved quality of life and outcomes.
Details
The Vinehealth digital, personalised, cancer support platform comprising the Vinehealth patient app and VinehealthPRO clinician dashboard uses a combination of behavioural science and AI enabling cancer patients to easily track, manage and understand appointments and medications, symptoms and lifestyle factors.
Delivering personalised cancer patient support significantly improves patients’ experience of care, reported quality of life and outcomes.
Through empowering patients to better self-manage, the platform gathers rich, longitudinal PROMs data to inform both academic research and healthcare delivery. Clinicians can request and view custom symptom data, adverse events, PROMs, toxicity assessments and clinical metrics through the VinehealthPRO clinician dashboard, enabling them to see, pre-empt and rapidly address clinical deteriorations.
The problem
We know that self-management accounts for a large proportion of cancer outcomes; yet understandably patients struggle to cope with the complexity of managing cancer resulting in a poor patient experience, higher healthcare utilisation and workforce burden.
Patients often don’t take in information given in appointments or report symptoms effectively to their clinicians.
For patients, the lack of support leads to feelings of isolation from care teams and worsens self-management. For clinicians, remote monitoring and follow-up is increasingly important in the context of limited resources and staff.
Research shows that better symptom tracking can increase survival by up to 20% - through improved self-management and symptom reporting. Through tracked patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) clinicians can support more timely and personalised clinical decision-making.
So why aren’t we already doing this for every cancer patient? That’s where Vinehealth’s technology comes in.
Evidence
More than 20,000 patients love using the Vinehealth app
The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust 2020 evaluation of Vinehealth platform resulted in:
100% PROMs completion
97% patient engagement
87% of patients reporting improved quality of life through use of the platform
52% increase in medication adherence
Fewer A&E admissions and unplanned hospital stays - based upon our evaluations to date and clear evidence in the wider literature, if the Vinehealth platform were to be adopted widely across the NHS
Study underway to collect PROMs data for RWE clinical trials, improve patient self-management, reduce emergency healthcare utilisation in a £1m randomised controlled trial underway in 9+ cancer centres funded by Innovate UK.
Reducing health inequalities by designing the Vinehealth digital personalised cancer support platform for accessibility means people of all abilities can perceive, understand, and interact with Vinehealth, including users with poor vision, limited hearing, cognitive and motor abilities, those over 80 and with low technical literacy. Caregiver log-ins facilitate those relying on others for support, language translations ensure usability for everyone and Vinehealth operates remotely, enabling access to support for those in more rural communities.
