Regional Perinatal Equity Network

Health Innovation South West and Health Innovation West of England, in partnership with the Regional Maternity and Perinatal team, invite you to join us for our next Regional Perinatal Equity Network event on 16 September from 1:30pm to 3:30pm, held on Microsoft Teams.

This collaborative network builds on the previous sessions over the past 3 years, with a renewed focus on supporting the implementation of the Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) Equity and Equality Action Plans. These plans provide a framework for our systems within the South West to address inequality within maternity and neonatal services.

Aims & Objectives:
  • Working in conjunction with the South West Regional Maternity team, we aim to provide a space for collaboration, discussion and sharing of learning to reduce health inequality for those working in perinatal care in the West and South West region
  • To demonstrate a regional commitment to addressing inequality in maternity and neonatal systems
  • To facilitate a psychologically safe space to explore cultural competency and diversity fluency
  • To act as a community of practice for those implementing inequality QI within the maternity and neonatal systems

Agenda:

  • Lucie Planner, Clinical Senior Specialist for Maternity, Neonatal and CYP Nursing, South West Region, NHS England will update on the planned rollout of the Black Maternity Matters programme for senior clinical leaders across the South West.
  • Anna Sanders & Abbie Tomson, PORTH Team Midwives, Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust, will share the implementation and evaluation of the Porth Continuity of Carer model, including outcomes, population complexity and service impact. Their findings highlight how relationship-based maternity care can help reduce inequalities and improve experiences of care.
  • Dr Helen Gbinigie, Consultant Neonatologist, Medway NHS Foundation Trust will present on recognising jaundice in infants with darker skin tones.
